We have a Whirlpool American style fridge (big, metal, double doors) which has a water dispenser set into the door, which runs through a filter system. The filter light has recently come on and I just want to know if the water is still safe to drink (it's plumbed into the wall and is still chilling the water) without a filter in place?

I will get around to changing it, but then I need to find the fridge model number (which isn't in big letters on the front) and search out what I need (and where the filter cartridge actually is!)

So - is the water still OK?
